Surrey First unveils 2026 election platform

Surrey First has released its 2026 election platform, centred on public safety, the local economy, city hall transparency, and major capital investments.

Mayoral candidate Linda Annis said the platform was built after more than two dozen community roundtables and knocking on more than 55,000 doors.

On public safety, the platform promises to complete the police transition, add 300 police officers over four years, open a police training centre, expand camera coverage, and add 40 firefighters and 25 bylaw officers per year.

On the economy, it pledges no commercial or business tax increases in 2027, five-day approvals for routine licences, and a focus on sectors including manufacturing, agri-tech and food processing, transportation and logistics, and business services.

The platform proposes about $1.8 billion in capital projects delivered through public-private partnerships, including a Surrey Conference Centre and Surrey Performing Arts Centre at City Centre, and a Cloverdale Trade and Exhibition Centre plus a multi-sport and aquatic centre at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. It also promises free access to pools, rinks, gyms and community centres for children and seniors.

On governance, the platform promises no residential or business property tax increase in 2027, a modernization review within 90 days, an independent Auditor General, a public question period at every council meeting, and mandate letters for councillors.
