Eby outlines Public Health Care Guarantee, warns of U.S.-style privatization

DELTA, B.C. - BC NDP Leader David Eby has outlined new rules to strengthen public health care in B.C. and guard against U.S.-style privatization, the party announced October 12. Every BC NDP candidate has signed on to a Public Health Care Guarantee that commits to protecting public health care, according to the release issued in Delta. Eby warned that the BC Conservatives would follow what he called Danielle Smith’s for-profit approach to health care in Alberta. The announcement includes closing loopholes that allow user fees and extra billing for publicly insured services, bringing nurse practitioners under the Medicare Protection Act, and eliminating hospital reliance on private temp nursing agencies over three years. “We won’t let anyone charge you for care that’s covered by your health card, let people pay to jump the queue, or pull doctors and nurses away from our public system,” Eby said, according to the party. The October 24 provincial election is 11 days away. Source: BC NDP Media Centre (https://www.bcndp.ca/releases/eby-will-protect-public-health-care-us-style-privatization)
