SURREY, B.C. - Surrey Police Service is investigating an arson at the Linda Vista Motel early this morning that left part of the motel damaged by fire and smoke.
Shortly after 4:45 a.m. on October 13, SPS frontline officers responded to calls of a fire at the motel in the 6400-block of King George Boulevard. Surrey Fire Services was already on scene battling the blaze in the lobby, which police say was started after a man entered the lobby, allegedly threatened staff, and then lit the area on fire.
No injuries have been confirmed, and police say it is not believed any motel guests were displaced.
The suspect left before police and fire crews arrived. He is described as a male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall with a large build, wearing dark-coloured clothing. Police say he may have left the area in a vehicle, but no vehicle description is available.
SPS’s Major Crime Unit and arson investigator are working with Surrey Fire Services fire investigators to examine the scene and gather evidence. The investigation is in its early stages and the motive has not been determined.
Police are asking anyone with information, or who witnessed the incident, including drivers in the area at the time with dashcam footage, to contact Surrey Police Service’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 26-110091 (SP).
