Free OpenAI course for teachers and new Study Mode for students: what Surrey parents should know

SURREY, B.C. -

OpenAI is putting teachers in the spotlight with its AI for Educators course on OpenAI Academy, the company’s free learning platform, alongside a walkthrough of Study Mode, a ChatGPT feature designed to teach through questions rather than answers.

The AI for Educators course, now available in Brazilian Portuguese on OpenAI Academy, is designed for educators in primary, secondary and higher education. According to OpenAI, it shows how to use AI to plan lessons, create activities and assessments, and prepare communications while preserving educators’ pedagogical judgment.

Study Mode, developed in collaboration with teachers, scientists and pedagogy experts, guides learners step by step with questions, hints, explanations and checks for understanding. To turn it on, users select Study from the tools menu in ChatGPT. A student reviewing biology, for example, can ask to be quizzed one question at a time on enzymes and get help identifying what to review.

For Surrey parents and students, the tools land at a useful moment: Study Mode’s question-first approach suits homework help and exam prep without simply handing over answers. Teachers can also test Study Mode against subjects they know well to judge whether its questions encourage real reasoning.

The course is free on OpenAI Academy at academy.openai.com, and Study Mode is available in ChatGPT at chatgpt.com.
