SURREY, B.C. - When Surrey-Panorama voters head to the polls on October 24, they will face a rematch decided by just 263 votes two years ago – and one new name on the ballot: Manav Manro, the CentreBC candidate.
Manro’s candidacy is confirmed in Elections BC’s final candidate report and on CentreBC’s own candidate materials. Unlike several of his CentreBC colleagues in Surrey, Manro has released little public biographical detail, and no campaign website was listed at nomination close. What is confirmed is the race he has entered.
CentreBC is the new centrist party founded in 2025 by former BC United MLA Karin Kirkpatrick and now led by Elenore Sturko, who is herself contesting Surrey South. Manro is one of eight CentreBC candidates running across Surrey’s ten ridings.
The riding context is the story here. In the 2024 provincial election, Conservative Bryan Tepper defeated NDP candidate Jinny Sims by 263 votes – 8,735 (49.6 per cent) to 8,472 (48.1 per cent) – with Freedom Party candidate Paramjit Rai at 404 votes. This time Sims, a former federal MP and cabinet minister, is back for a rematch with the incumbent Tepper, while Manro and BC Green candidate Nolen Scott complete the four-person ballot.
In a riding where fewer than 300 votes separated the top two, even a modest CentreBC vote could shift the outcome – a dynamic both front-runners’ campaigns will be watching.
Advance voting in Surrey-Panorama runs October 16 to 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Sunshine Ridge Baptist Church, 6230 120 Street. General voting day is Saturday, October 24.
