SURREY, B.C. – British Columbia votes in the provincial election on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Surrey’s ten ridings are among the most closely watched in the province, and several were decided by a few hundred votes last time. Here is everything Surrey voters need to know, from Elections BC.
When is election day, and what are the hours?
Final Voting Day is Saturday, October 24, 2026. Voting places are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific time. If you are in line at 8 p.m., you can still vote.
Can I still vote early?
Yes. Advance voting runs October 16 to 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and you can vote at any advance voting place in the province, not just one in your riding. Not every advance place is open every day, so check Elections BC’s Where to Vote app at wheretovote.elections.bc.ca before you go. You can also vote at a district electoral office from now until 4 p.m. on October 24.
Where do I vote on October 24?
You have an assigned voting place, listed on the Where to Vote card Elections BC mailed to registered voters. If another voting place is more convenient, you can vote there instead. Find your assigned place in the Where to Vote app at wheretovote.elections.bc.ca.
Find yours fast: use the Elections BC Where to Vote tool for your assigned voting place, or see voting places in Surrey on Google Maps.
What ID do I need?
Any one of these three options works:
- One piece of government photo ID with your name and current address, such as a B.C. driver’s licence, a BCID card, a BC Services Card with a photo, or a Certificate of Indian Status.
- Two documents that both show your name, with at least one showing your current address, such as a utility bill, a bank statement or a government letter. Neither has to be photo ID.
- Be vouched for by a registered voter in your electoral district, a family member (spouse, parent, grandparent, adult child, adult grandchild or adult sibling), or a person with legal authority to make personal care decisions for you. The voucher shows their own ID and both of you make a solemn declaration.
I am not registered. Can I still vote?
Yes. Advance registration closed October 1, but you can register or update your address at the voting place when you vote. Bring the ID described above.
Who is allowed to vote?
You can vote if you are a Canadian citizen, 18 or older on October 24, 2026, and have lived in British Columbia since April 23, 2026. You vote in the electoral district where you live.
What about voting by mail?
Requests for vote-by-mail packages closed on October 18. If you already have a package, your completed ballot must reach Elections BC by 8 p.m. on October 24. You can return it by mail or drop it off at any district electoral office or voting place. Do not leave it to the last day if you are mailing it.
Which riding am I in, and who is running?
Surrey has ten provincial ridings: Surrey City Centre, Surrey-Cloverdale, Surrey-Fleetwood, Surrey-Guildford, Surrey-Newton, Surrey North, Surrey-Panorama, Surrey-Serpentine River, Surrey South and Surrey-White Rock. If you are unsure of your riding, the Where to Vote app will tell you based on your address. Apna News has published a profile of every candidate running in Surrey, in our BC Provincial Elections section.
When will results come in?
Polls close at 8 p.m. Pacific on October 24. Apna News will publish live results for all ten Surrey ridings as Elections BC reports them, on apnanews.ca.
