SURREY, B.C. - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a food recall warning for 12 organic cheese products sold under the Farm Boy, L’Ancêtre and Life Smart brands, saying the cheeses may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall warning was published on October 14, 2026, and was triggered by CFIA test results. The recalling company is Fromagerie L’Ancêtre Inc. The products were distributed nationally, which means they reached store shelves across the country, including grocery stores in Surrey and the rest of British Columbia.
The CFIA says there have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled products so far. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation and is verifying that the recalled cheeses are being removed from the marketplace. It says the investigation may lead to the recall of other products.
Five Farm Boy products are on the list, all with a best before date of July 30, 2027: Organic Swiss Cheese (190 g, UPC 8 08912 02276 5, code 243E), Organic Medium Cheddar Cheese (200 g, UPC 8 08912 02279 6, code 811D), Organic Old Cheddar Cheese (200 g, UPC 8 08912 02278 9, code 562D), Organic Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese (200 g, UPC 8 08912 01237 7, code G6D) and Organic 3 Year Old Cheddar Cheese (195 g, UPC 8 08912 01236 0, code 392Z).
Six L’Ancêtre products are also recalled: Organic Swiss Cheese (200 g, UPC 7 78177 49960 5, best before July 30, 2027), Organic Cheddar Cheese, Shredded Old (2 kg, UPC 7 78177 82933 4, best before December 4, 2026), Organic Mozza, Cheddar Shredded Cheese Blend (200 g, UPC 7 78177 49950 6, best before December 11, 2026 and January 17, 2027), Organic Mozzarella Cheese, Shredded Partially Skimmed (1 kg, UPC 7 78177 82938 9, best before December 25, 2026), Organic Swiss Cheese, Shredded (1 kg, UPC 7 78177 82960 0, best before December 25, 2026) and Organic Cheddar Cheese, Shredded Medium (2 kg, UPC 7 78177 85132 8, best before January 24, 2027).
The list is rounded out by Life Smart Organic Part Skim Mozzarella Cheese (200 g, UPC 0 59749 99105 6), with a best before date of March 30, 2027.
The CFIA advises shoppers to check whether they have any of the recalled products at home. Recalled products should not be consumed, served, used, sold or distributed. They should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, the agency warns. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
Anyone who thinks they became sick from eating a recalled product should contact their healthcare provider, the CFIA says. The recall identification number is RA-82779.
