DELTA, B.C. - Mayor-elect Melissa Granum and Delta’s newly elected council will be sworn in tonight at Delta City Hall, beginning a new four-year term for the city.
The inaugural council meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Delta City Hall, 4500 Clarence Taylor Crescent, according to the City’s published agenda for the meeting.
The ceremony opens with welcomes from Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band. The Honourable Justice Dion will then administer the oath of office and oath of allegiance to Mayor-elect Granum and to the councillors-elect, followed by an expression of appreciation to Justice Dion and Granum’s inaugural address.
Granum won the mayor’s chair in the October 17 election with 16,197 votes (48.44 percent), as recorded in the City’s official declaration of results. Delta voters also elected six councillors and seven school trustees.
Tonight’s agenda also gets straight to business: council will appoint Delta’s directors to the Metro Vancouver Board, including two director positions carrying three votes each plus alternates, appoint a member to the Delta Police Board, name council representatives to external regional organizations including the TransLink Mayors’ Council and the Fraser Valley Regional Library Board, and set the acting-mayor schedule from November 3, 2026 to November 1, 2027.
For Delta residents in North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen, tonight matters because the Metro Vancouver appointments decided in the first hour will shape who speaks for Delta on regional water, sewer, parks and transit decisions, and the new council will soon face the city’s own budget and growth choices for the next four years.
