Tamara Jansen represents Cloverdale Langley City as a Conservative, with her constituency office in Surrey. She currently sits on the House Standing Committee on Finance, where the country's budgets and tax laws get their scrutiny.
Jansen is a Langley native who, since 1991, built a successful agricultural business with her husband Byron, owning and operating Darvonda Nurseries, a large plant nursery in Langley, with her family. The business grew into a multinational operation that has provided jobs for hundreds of people. That background as an employer shapes how she approaches the Finance committee, where budget and tax decisions land hardest on businesses. Raised by a single mother, she went on to raise her own children and is now a grandmother. Her campaign biography describes her advocacy for the elderly, the disabled and the small business community.
Her road back to Ottawa was anything but straight. First elected in 2019, she lost her seat in 2021, then won it back through a December 16, 2024 by-election before being re-elected in the April 2025 general election. Few MPs know what it feels like to lose it all and earn it back.
Her committee work has followed her through both stints in Ottawa. In her first term she sat on Finance, Health and the special COVID-19 pandemic committee, and also served as deputy shadow minister for Labour. Since her return she has served on Government Operations and Estimates and, as vice-chair of the special joint committee on Medical Assistance in Dying from March to June 2026, on one of the most sensitive files in federal politics. She rejoined the Finance committee in September 2026.
In June 2025 she introduced Private Member's Bill C-218, which would amend the Criminal Code so that a mental disorder cannot qualify a person for medical assistance in dying. She is also a member of parliamentary associations including the Canada-Israel Interparliamentary Group and the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group.
For Cloverdale residents, she is a familiar face who has now seen Parliament from both the winner's and the loser's side.
