What Is at Stake: Four Issues to Watch

Property Taxes

Surrey’s rapid growth puts pressure on the city budget. Council sets the property tax rate each spring; the next council will decide how to balance service demands with affordability.

The Arena

Plans for a new arena and entertainment district in Surrey City Centre remain a major capital question. Funding models, including public-private partnerships, have been debated at council.

Public Safety

The transition from the RCMP to the Surrey Police Service continues to shape the public safety conversation, alongside responses to property crime and community safety concerns.

Transit and Gridlock

The SkyTrain extension to Langley is under construction, and road congestion remains a daily concern for commuters. The next council will weigh transit investment against road capacity projects.

Candidate positions on these issues are covered in the individual profiles and our forum reporting above. This section describes the issues only.
