Vancouver police have arrested a 34-year-old driver after a pickup truck struck another vehicle, crashed into a nursing home, split in half, and burst into flames early Friday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., a witness at Renfrew Street and East 22nd Avenue reported his vehicle was struck by a grey GMC Sierra travelling southbound. The truck then veered off the road and collided with a nearby nursing home. Responding officers found the wreckage fully engulfed in flames.
Paramedics and Vancouver Fire Rescue Service also responded. The truck’s driver and passenger were taken to hospital. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the other vehicle or the building.
The driver was arrested for dangerous operation and impaired operation of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Officers also served him with a 90-day driving prohibition.
The GMC Sierra wreckage was seized. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012 or email vpdciu@vpd.ca.
