SURREY, B.C. - The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in after a man’s body was found in Surrey’s Fleetwood area Wednesday afternoon, with investigators treating the death as suspicious.
Surrey Police Service officers responded to the 6100-block of 156 Street at about 1:07 p.m. on October 14 after a report of a found body. First responders located a deceased man at the scene. Based on initial observations, criminality was suspected and IHIT took over the investigation.
IHIT is working with Surrey Police, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroners Service to determine what happened. Investigators have not yet identified the man.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area of the 6100-block of 156 Street between October 8 and October 14 and may have information to come forward. Investigators especially want to speak with anyone who has dashcam footage from the area during that period.
“This investigation is in its early stages, and significant work is underway as we conduct a forensic examination of the area where the deceased was located,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “It is critical for us to establish a timeline of events leading up to the man’s death, and we are asking anyone with information to contact IHIT.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
IHIT is the region’s integrated team that investigates homicides and suspicious deaths across the Lower Mainland. The 6100-block of 156 Street sits in the Fleetwood neighbourhood of Surrey, south of 64 Avenue.
