SURREY, B.C. - Apple’s first foldable iPhone reaches Surrey this week. The iPhone Duo goes on sale Friday, October 23, and local buyers can see it in person, or pick one up, at the Apple Store in Guildford Town Centre, which opens early at 8 a.m. on launch day.
Apple introduced the Duo on September 9, when John Ternus called it “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.” Closed, it is about the size of a passport, with a 5.4-inch outer display that Apple says delivers 90 per cent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Opened, it is the thinnest iPhone ever, with a 7.6-inch inner display that is 50 per cent larger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Both Super Retina XDR screens offer ProMotion, an Always On feature and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness outdoors. The inner display uses a nano-texture finish to cut glare and make the fold crease less visible. Touch ID is built into the side button and works open or closed, and a FaceTime camera sits hidden under the inner display.
Inside is the A20 Pro chip, the same processor as the iPhone 18 Pro models, with vapour chamber cooling and a dual battery design, one cell on each side of the fold. Apple rates the Duo for up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display, with a wired charge to 50 per cent in about 20 minutes.
The camera system pairs a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and a 12MP Center Stage front camera. The folding design adds tricks no other iPhone offers, including rear camera selfies previewed on the outer display and Smart Take, which snaps the photo when everyone in the frame is posed. With iOS 27, Split View runs two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time, and support for the Apple Pencil (USB-C) arrives later this year.
The body is grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield 2 up front, Ceramic Shield on the back and an IP68 water and dust rating. One change matters for Canadian buyers: the Duo is eSIM only, with no physical SIM tray, so a new plan is activated digitally rather than by swapping a card.
Pricing makes its own headline. U.S. pricing starts at $1,999 (U.S.) for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions above it, in two colours, star white and night sky. Pre-orders opened on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT at apple.com/ca and in the Apple Store app, with financing and in-store pickup available. Canadian buyers can also cut the cost through Apple Trade In, which offers an instant credit of $40 to $1,415 (CAD) for an eligible iPhone 13 or newer.
For Surrey shoppers, the question is whether a phone that opens into a small tablet is worth the steepest price Apple has ever put on an iPhone. The Duo is aimed at heavy multitaskers, readers and video watchers who want the biggest iPhone screen available without carrying a separate tablet. Anyone on the fence can try one in person at the Guildford Town Centre store, 10355 152 Street, when doors open early Friday.
