LANGLEY, B.C. - A 23-year-old Langley man has been arrested and charged after a mother and her two children were allegedly assaulted near Douglas Park in Langley City in what police describe as a hate-motivated incident.
The Langley RCMP said in a news release issued Monday, October 26, 2026, that Braden Perozny of Langley faces three counts of assault and three counts of committing an offence motivated by hatred. The charges have not been proven in court.
What police say happened near Douglas Park
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., Langley RCMP received a report from multiple witnesses of an assault on a mother and her children by a man near Douglas Park, the detachment said.
It is alleged that the accused assaulted the mother and her two children and uttered racial slurs. Multiple witnesses observed the incident and contacted police. The suspect fled before officers arrived.
Arrest the next day
On Wednesday, October 21, officers from the Langley RCMP’s Special Response Team arrested a man closely matching the description of the suspect. He was held in police custody to appear before a judge.
Six charges laid
On Thursday, October 22, the BC Prosecution Service formally charged Perozny with three counts of assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code, and three counts of committing an offence motivated by hatred, contrary to section 320.1001(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
In plain terms, the second charge means prosecutors allege the assaults themselves were motivated by hatred, which the Criminal Code treats as a separate offence on top of the underlying assault. In British Columbia, charges are laid by Crown counsel after an independent charge assessment, and every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Perozny is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
What police are saying
“This was a deeply concerning incident, and our thoughts are with the woman and her family as they continue to receive support from Langley RCMP Victim Services,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak of the Langley RCMP. “We appreciate the members of the public who came forward to assist and provide information to investigators.”

Why witnesses mattered in this case
Douglas Park sits in the heart of downtown Langley City, one of the busiest public spaces in the Langleys, surrounded by homes, shops, and transit stops. Police credit the multiple witnesses who called in the assault and then shared information with investigators for the speed of the arrest, which came the day after the incident. Langley RCMP Victim Services is supporting the mother and her family.
