Quesnel RCMP seized two loaded handguns and drugs in two separate incidents over the weekend.
On Saturday, September 26, at 8:15 p.m., an officer on proactive patrol conducted a traffic stop near the Anderson Drive soccer fields. The driver, a 21-year-old Quesnel woman, was arrested for impaired operation and drug possession. Police seized a small amount of various drugs, cash and a loaded pistol from the vehicle. She has been released pending further investigation, with results to be sent to the BC Prosecution Service for assessment of charges.
On Monday, September 28, at 10:07 a.m., officers responding to a suspicious vehicle report arrested a 37-year-old Quesnel man after spotting a handgun inside his vehicle. Police seized a loaded pistol with an over-capacity magazine as well as various drugs. Jade Bennett has been charged with six firearms-related offences and has been remanded in custody pending court.
“These proactive enforcement actions directly impact public safety by removing unlawfully-possessed firearms and ammunition from the community and disrupting violent criminal activity,” said Sgt. Clay Kronebusch.
