RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit has concluded its 2024 attempted murder investigation after the suspect was found deceased.
In August 2026, officers were called to a forested area in Fleetwood, Surrey, where human remains were discovered. Police have confirmed the remains are those of 33-year-old Kalid Yimer. Police do not believe criminality was involved and the death is not considered suspicious.
Investigators believe Yimer was the lone individual responsible for the August 2, 2024 attack in the 10200 block of City Parkway, where a man was seriously injured after being doused in accelerant and set on fire. With this finding, the investigation is concluded and the attempted murder charge has been abated.
The victim and their family have been informed and continue to ask for privacy.
