BC Conservatives drop Victoria-Beacon Hill candidate over offensive posts after NDP complaint

The BC Conservatives have dropped Joachim Agou as their candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill after offensive social media posts surfaced, party leader Lorne Doerkson confirmed Thursday. The posts were first flagged by the BC NDP, which shared screenshots and called the content racist.According to the NDP’s October 8 release, Agou attacked the Pakistani community as “a shithole,” said a car that drove through a group of protesters “should have reversed” through them too, and celebrated politicians the NDP described as white supremacist, including Geert Wilders.Doerkson said in a statement reported by news outlets: “There is no excuse for this. I will not tolerate it. The candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill is no longer a Conservative candidate. If elected, he will not serve in the caucus.” According to reports, the removal came about 90 minutes after the NDP publicized the posts. The call to fire Agou came from Amna Shah, the NDP’s candidate in Surrey City Centre, who described the posts as “absolutely horrific racism.” For Surrey’s Pakistani and Muslim communities watching the October 24 provincial vote, the episode puts candidate vetting squarely in the spotlight. No party-published announcement about the removal could be found on the Conservative Party of BC’s own website. Agou did not respond to requests for comment sent to his campaign, according to reports, and it is unclear whether he will run as an independent.Source: BC NDP release, Oct 8, 2026 (bcndp.ca).
