SURREY, B.C. - A Surrey woman who was the subject of a public appeal last week has been found safe.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) says Candace Shepherd, the missing person named in its October 17, 2026 public appeal, has been located safe and sound. The update was issued on October 21, 2026, under file 2026-111172 (SP).
SPS thanked the media and the public for their assistance in the case.
Police ask that appeal images come down
The SPS update also asks residents to consider removing any images of Shepherd that have been posted online.
That request is a standard part of closing a missing person file. While an appeal is active, a person’s photograph is shared as widely and as quickly as possible, and that reach is often part of what brings someone home. Once the person is found, the picture serves no further purpose, and leaving it in circulation can keep generating tips, messages and mistaken sightings long after the case is closed. Deleting the original post also stops the image from being reshared later, stripped of the news that the person is safe.
Just as importantly, someone who has been located is entitled to their privacy again. Taking the photo down is the final step that returns it to them.
Appeal posts can also travel far beyond the page that first shared them. A screenshot or a repost in a community group keeps moving even after police announce the person has been found, which is why removing the image at the source, and in any group where you shared it, does more good than adding a comment underneath the post.
A short appeal, a good ending
Apna News did not publish the October 17 appeal, so there is no earlier story or photograph on this site to take down. We are reporting the outcome for the readers who saw the appeal elsewhere: the search is over, and Candace Shepherd is safe and sound.
