SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI assistant, has filed an amended IPO prospectus that puts a headline number on its future computing bill: approximately US$895.4 billion in purchase commitments and lease agreements, substantially all of it related to compute and infrastructure.
The figure appears in Amendment No. 1 to Anthropic’s Form S-1, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on November 2, 2026. An S-1 is the registration document a company files before selling shares to the public for the first time; an amendment updates it with newer financial information and disclosures before any shares are priced.
According to the filing text, approximately US$447.5 billion of the commitments is expected to be incurred before December 31, 2030, and approximately US$69.8 billion falls due in the 12 months following September 30, 2026. Anthropic has applied to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol ANT, and the filing still leaves the offering price range blank, so no share price, share count or listing date is set by this document.
It is important to read the number correctly. A commitment total is not cash already spent. It is the sum of purchase commitments and leases the company has entered into, including leases not yet commenced, for computing power and data centres over many years, running through 2045 in the filing’s own framing. The number shows the scale of infrastructure Anthropic believes it needs to train and run its models, and it is one of the largest such totals ever disclosed by an AI company.
For Surrey readers, the story is less about one company’s balance sheet and more about what it signals for the AI tools now woven into everyday work and study. The race to build AI capacity is driving enormous infrastructure spending, and that spending shapes the price, availability and capability of the assistants, coding tools and classroom aids that Surrey students, small businesses and newcomers increasingly rely on.
