Update, October 7, 2026: Chapman left the Conservative Party on September 22, 2026 to join OneBC. OneBC later confirmed he would not be a candidate in the October 24 provincial election.

Brent Chapman was elected on October 19, 2024 as the Conservative MLA for Surrey South, with a constituency office on 24th Avenue in Surrey. Nominated as the Conservative candidate in May 2024, he ran in what became a two candidate race after the previous MLA, Elenore Sturko, moved to run in nearby Surrey-Cloverdale. Chapman defeated the NDP's Haroon Ghaffar, and the Peace Arch News reported he took 13,056 votes, nearly 4,000 more than his challenger.

His background is in show business. His campaign biography describes a career in acting, producing, broadcasting, writing and voice coaching, including work as a well recognized television commercial actor for brands such as Coca-Cola, Sears and Honda. His legislature disclosure reflects the same working life: ownership of Motivated Energies Ltd, an acting, writing and producing company, alongside earlier income from the Maple Leaf Initiative Society.

Chapman has said he was raised in Winnipeg and moved to B.C. in 1978, drawn into politics by a father who followed it closely around the dinner table. In a post-election Q&A with the Peace Arch News, he called the swearing-in and the legislature's orientation wonderful, and said he felt well prepared alongside B.C.'s other new MLAs. His wife is Kerry-Lynne Findlay, a former federal MP for South Surrey-White Rock who became leader of the BC Conservative Party in 2026. The couple has four children.

On the legislative side, John Rustad named him the opposition's critic for Transit and ICBC in the 2024 shadow cabinet, an appointment the Canadian Press noted came after Chapman had apologized during the campaign for controversial past social media remarks. When Kerry-Lynne Findlay announced a new shadow cabinet in June 2026, Chapman moved to critic for Arts, Culture, and AI.

News reports say he joined OneBC on September 22, 2026, two days after Findlay resigned as Conservative leader. The Canadian Press later reported that Chapman and OneBC had mutually decided he would not be a candidate in the October 24 election.

South Surrey is one of the most established and affluent parts of the city, and Chapman's pitch has leaned on representing its interests in a legislature where Surrey's growth corridors usually get the attention.

Editor's note: the legislature was dissolved on September 22, 2026 and a provincial election was called for October 24, 2026. Offices above reflect the 43rd Parliament.
