MACKENZIE, B.C. - About 20 people were injured, some seriously, when a northbound white shuttle bus left Highway 39 and crashed into the ditch about four kilometres south of Mackenzie on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, police say. The highway was completely shut down, and investigators are asking witnesses and anyone with dash-camera video to come forward.
Police received the call about the single-vehicle collision at 9:10 a.m. on November 4, BC Highway Patrol said in a release. When officers arrived, they found the bus in the ditch and about 20 passengers and the driver with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Multiple air and ground ambulances were used to get the injured to treatment.
Mackenzie RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services and Fire Rescue also responded, and RCMP collision analysts were requested to attend the scene. A complete shutdown of Highway 39 was required while emergency personnel provided medical care and investigators examined the scene. Mackenzie RCMP said the closure was expected to last several hours and that there are no alternate routes around it: Highway 39 is the main road link between Mackenzie and Highway 97 to Prince George.
“This was a chaotic scene, and police will need time to sort out many of the details,” said Sergeant Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “We need to speak with anyone who has dash camera video of the bus, or any witnesses who saw what was happening prior to the crash.”
No arrests have been made, and the cause of the crash is still uncertain. Nothing has been ruled out, police said.
“We ask the public to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel the space they need to safely respond to this incident,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, an RCMP spokesperson. Drivers should expect significant delays and are encouraged to check DriveBC before travelling.
Anyone who saw the bus in the minutes before the collision, or who has dash-camera footage, is asked to call BC Highway Patrol, Prince George, at 250-649-4004 and quote file (3100) 2026-956.
This is a developing story. Apna News will update it as police release more information.
