SURREY, B.C. -
The Consulate General of India in Vancouver has clarified that Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders face no restriction on travel to or from India while their passport-details update is being processed, covering the period from the date of the updation application until final acknowledgement of their documents in the online system.
In a public notice dated October 14, 2026, the consulate also reminded cardholders that passport details in the OCI Card, including e-OCI registration, must be updated each time a new passport is issued, irrespective of age, within three months of the passport’s issuance. The reminder matters for Surrey’s large OCI-holder community, where anyone who recently renewed a Canadian passport needs to update their OCI record within that window.
OCI cardholders applying for a passport updation who need further information or clarification can contact the Consulate General of India in Vancouver at oci.vancouver@mea.gov.in, according to the notice.
