Linda Annis promises anti-corruption review in first 100 days if elected Surrey mayor

SURREY, B.C. - Surrey First mayoral candidate Linda Annis says she will order an independent anti-corruption review of Surrey City Hall within the first 100 days if she is elected on October 17. In a media release issued October 12, Annis said persistent questions from residents about how business is conducted at city hall need to be addressed. “Our team has knocked on more than 60,000 doors this election, and too many people think there is favouritism and corruption at city hall,” Annis said. “The questions keep coming up on the doorstep and Surrey residents deserve answers one way or the other.” Annis said the review would examine areas including development permits, city land purchases, stop-work orders, bylaw enforcement, procurement, and the firing of former police chief Norm Lipinski. “A Surrey First city council will ask a retired Supreme Court judge to carry out an independent and fully transparent anti-corruption review in the first 100 days of the new council being sworn in,” she said. “I want to show our citizens that we take the questions and rumours seriously, and that we are committed to running an honest, open and fair city. If something is wrong, it will be identified and made public.” Annis is running against incumbent mayor Brenda Locke and other challengers in the October 17 municipal election.
