Public tips and investigative efforts subsequently led to the identification of a suspect. On June 5, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved one charge against Dominic Kavanagh Latreille: failing to remain at the scene of a collision, under section 320.16(3) of the Criminal Code.

On October 14, 2026, Latreille was arrested in Drummondville, Quebec, by the RCMP with the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec, in a collaboration between BC Highway Patrol, RCMP “C” Division and the Quebec provincial police. He appeared in court on October 15, 2026, and was remanded in custody. The BC Sheriffs then transported him back to British Columbia for court.

The charge has not been proven in court.
