Parm Bhandol: CentreBC’s Third Option in Surrey North’s Six-Way Race

SURREY, B.C. - When voters in Surrey North head to the polls on October 24, they will face the most crowded ballot of any Surrey riding: six candidates, from the Conservatives, NDP, Greens, OneBC, an unaffiliated campaign – and CentreBC, whose banner is carried by Parm Bhandol.

Bhandol is confirmed as CentreBC’s candidate for Surrey North on the party’s official candidate list and in Elections BC’s final candidate list, published after nominations closed on October 3. Beyond that, little is publicly documented about him: no biography is published on the party’s site, no campaign website or public social channels are listed for his candidacy, and he has not yet published responses to the local media’s candidate questionnaires. This profile is intentionally brief rather than padded with unverified detail.

What is on the public record is his active role in the CentreBC campaign. On October 16, Bhandol was one of four regional CentreBC candidates – alongside Paul Brar (Surrey-Fleetwood), Sargy Chima (Surrey-Cloverdale), and Kyle Stevenson (Langley-Walnut Grove) – who joined party leader Elenore Sturko at a Langley announcement on schools. There, Sturko pledged permanent spaces for 25,000 more B.C. public school students by 2031, the return of letter grades from Grade 4 up, 1,500 more education assistants, 350 child and youth care workers and behaviour specialists, and an expansion of school food programs to 40 percent of students by 2030. She argued the party could pay for the plan while returning the province’s books to balance within two terms.

CentreBC, the new centrist party now led by Sturko, describes its shared purpose as addressing affordability, safety, and opportunity. Bhandol is one of the party’s nine candidates across Surrey’s ten ridings, and his candidacy gives Surrey North voters a centrist alternative in a contest that in 2024 was fought almost entirely on the NDP-Conservative axis.

That axis defined the 2024 result: Conservative Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal won the seat with 7,954 votes, defeating NDP incumbent Rachna Singh, who took 6,795 – a margin of 1,159 votes. Dhaliwal is seeking re-election. This time the ballot also carries Jag Bhandari (unaffiliated), Yudhbir Gill (B.C. Greens), Tanya Gupta (OneBC), and Sahib Thind (BC NDP) alongside Bhandol.

Advance voting in Surrey North runs October 16 to 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Senator Reid Elementary School, 9341 126 Street in Surrey. General voting day is Saturday, October 24.
