SURREY, B.C. - Three organizations with deep Surrey roots have won the 2026 Surrey and White Rock Environment and Business Awards, presented by the Surrey and White Rock Board of Trade at the 20th annual event on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The awards, sponsored by FortisBC, go to organizations that are located in Surrey or White Rock, or are Board of Trade members, and have demonstrated exceptional dedication to environmental leadership.
“Surrey and White Rock businesses and organizations are redefining what it means to be competitive in a changing climate,” said Joslyn Young, chief executive officer of the Board of Trade. “By celebrating this year’s award recipients, we recognize the visionaries who show us that practical environmental stewardship and clean economic growth aren’t competing priorities; they are the foundation of future success.”
ReuseTechBC took the Small Business Award. The registered charity collects surplus electronics, securely wipes and refurbishes them, and redistributes them to schools, non-profits and low-income individuals, bridging the digital divide while cutting electronic waste.
In 2026 alone, ReuseTechBC refurbished 7,423 devices, diverting an estimated 3,029 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, and distributed more than 1,500 devices directly into the Surrey community. By putting device reuse ahead of manufacturing new equipment and partnering with eco-friendly couriers, the charity turns electronic waste into community equity.
AGL Glazing Inc. won the Medium Business Award. The commercial glazing contractor has more than two decades of experience delivering curtain walls, storefronts, windows and architectural glass solutions across British Columbia.
Through computer-automated precision cutting, AGL achieves up to 97 per cent material recovery in fabrication and cuts traditional aluminum waste by 72 per cent. Its energy-efficient glazing systems reduce heat transfer and building operating emissions, and the company recycles glass and aluminum, a material that retains value across decades.
Moment Energy won the Large Business Award. Founded in a Surrey garage in 2019 by four engineers, the clean-technology company transforms retired electric vehicle batteries into commercial-scale battery energy storage systems that power data centres, hospitals and microgrids while keeping usable batteries out of landfills.
Its Surrey Mega Factory is described as the world’s largest certified second-life battery facility, and Moment Energy is the first North American company to achieve UL 1974 repurposing safety certification. The company is projecting 1 GWh of manufacturing capacity while creating more than 100 local clean-tech jobs in Surrey.
The event also featured a panel discussion on climate competitiveness, with Andrea MacLeod of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Jorge Lobo of FortisBC and Caroline Chiu, the City of Surrey’s manager of economic investment services, sharing how businesses across B.C. can drive productivity and long-term prosperity while responding to a changing climate.
