Advance voting is underway for Surrey’s October 17 municipal election, and voters still have three more early voting days to cast a ballot before general voting day.
According to the City of Surrey, advance voting runs October 7, 10, 14 and 15, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The first advance day on October 7 has already passed, leaving Saturday, October 10, Wednesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 15 as the remaining early voting dates.
Ten advance voting locations are open across Surrey: Cloverdale Recreation Centre, Earl Marriott Secondary, Ecole Panorama Ridge Secondary, Fleetwood Community Centre, Frank Hurt Secondary, Fraser Heights Recreation Centre, Guildford Recreation Centre, Kwantlen Park Secondary, Princess Margaret Secondary and Semiahmoo Secondary. All ten sites are in Surrey; White Rock is holding its own separate municipal election.
For voters in Surrey’s South Asian neighbourhoods, convenient advance sites are close to home. In Newton, Frank Hurt Secondary and Princess Margaret Secondary serve the area. In Whalley, Guildford Recreation Centre and Kwantlen Park Secondary are the nearby options. In Fleetwood, voters can head to the Fleetwood Community Centre.
On general voting day, Saturday, October 17, polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 52 voting locations across the city. Voters will elect one mayor, eight councillors and six school trustees.
The City encourages eligible voters to confirm their registration and check their assigned voting location before heading to the polls, and to bring accepted identification when they vote.
