VANCOUVER, B.C. – Vancouver police have arrested a 64-year-old man after two alleged residential break-ins in South Vancouver on the morning of October 8.
The first incident happened around 9:45 a.m. near East 49th Avenue and McKinnon Street, police say. A man removed a window screen but fled after being confronted by someone at the home. About 30 minutes later, a matching suspect broke a window and stole items from a home near West 48th Avenue and Ontario Street.
Officers tracked the suspect with help from the Canine Unit and made an arrest. The Canine Unit is a specialized VPD team that uses trained police dogs to track suspects and search buildings. Daryl Silas Hunt, 64, has been charged with attempted break and enter and break and enter.
Break and enter charges are allegations that have not been proven in court. Hunt remains in custody pending a court appearance on October 15. Police did not say what items were stolen or their value.
Investigators believe additional break-ins may be linked to the same suspect. Police ask anyone who experienced an unreported break-in in the area to file a report.
Apna News will update this story after the October 15 court appearance and if further charges are laid.
