ZEBALLOS, B.C. - The Village of Zeballos has issued an evacuation order for homes on Maquinna Avenue and Pandora Crescent after a landslide put lives at risk, with residents told to leave immediately.
The order, issued on November 6, covers 101 to 118 Maquinna Avenue and 202 to 216 Pandora Crescent. EmergencyInfoBC says the landslide is a risk to life and safety and anyone in the affected area must evacuate now.
An evacuation alert is also in effect for 402, 404 and 406 Ferris Road, meaning residents there should be ready to leave on short notice.
People leaving the area are asked to register with Emergency Support Services at the reception centre at the Zeballos Fire Hall, 155 Maquinna Avenue, so they can be contacted or reunited with family, or to register online. Anyone who needs transportation assistance from the area should call 250-830-6702.
Zeballos is a small village on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The landslide is a reminder that B.C.’s storm season is now year-round, as BC Hydro warned in its report this week: drought, heat and wildfire have left slopes and trees more vulnerable, making fall and winter storms more damaging. PreparedBC publishes landslide guidance for households, and DriveBC carries current highway conditions for anyone travelling on Vancouver Island this weekend.
