BC Greens pitch $22.2B wealth tax to fund childcare, transit, housing

SURREY, B.C. – BC Green leader Emily Lowan has pitched a $22.2 billion wealth tax as the centrepiece of the party’s platform for the October 24 provincial election, saying the revenue would fund universal childcare, transit expansion, and affordable housing. The proposal would apply an annual tax on household net worth above a threshold, a policy the Greens say targets the province’s wealthiest residents. The party released costing details alongside the announcement, arguing the measure would make BC’s tax system fairer while funding services. Neither the NDP nor the Conservatives have proposed a wealth tax in this campaign.
