DELTA, B.C. - Melissa Granum has taken office as Delta’s new mayor, pledging a council focused on accountable government, liveable neighbourhoods, and a safe and connected community, according to the City of Delta’s 2026 Inaugural Address, posted November 3, 2026.
Mayor Granum and Councillors Sylvia Bishop, Daniel Boisvert, Alex Fischer, Alicia Guichon, Tammy Hansen and Jat Puri were sworn in at Delta’s Inaugural Meeting of Council on November 2, 2026. The Honourable Justice Dion administered the oaths of office and allegiance, marking the beginning of council’s new term.
“It is an extraordinary privilege to stand before you as Delta’s new Mayor. Taking the Oath of Office tonight, I feel deep gratitude for your trust and a profound responsibility to earn it every day,” Mayor Granum said in her address, marked check against delivery.
She thanked outgoing Mayor George Harvie for his decades of service, and outgoing councillors Jessie Dosanjh, Jennifer Johal, Dylan Kruger and Rod Binder for their service and contributions to Delta. She also thanked everyone who ran in the election, saying putting their names forward takes courage and many sacrifices.
“This election brought forward different teams, different perspectives, and different ideas about the future of Delta. Not everyone around this Council table campaigned together, and not everyone will always agree. But that is both the reality and the strength of local democracy,” she said. “I am committed to leading a Council where every voice is heard, where disagreement is welcomed, and where collaboration is expected.”
On priorities, Mayor Granum said council will get to work over the next few months, focusing on accountable government, liveable neighbourhoods, and a safe and connected community. With the support of staff, she said, council will assess the resources required to implement its plan and report publicly on its progress. “Some changes will take time, but we will follow through on our commitments,” she said.
For Delta residents, including many Surrey neighbours who work, shop and travel across the municipal boundary every day, the address sets the tone for the new term rather than announcing specific new programs. The test will be the public progress reports she promised, and the first council decisions in the weeks ahead.
