Lundgren won the October 17, 2026 mayoral race with 18,302 votes, or 54.21 per cent, defeating incumbent Eric Woodward, whose certified total was 15,459 votes. The Township’s results were certified after election night, and the new council now serves a four-year term running to 2030.

Residents who missed the ceremony can watch the full inaugural meeting video through the Township’s news page. The Township, which shares a long border with Surrey along 200 Street and the Fraser Valley corridor, is one of the Lower Mainland municipalities whose council decisions on growth, roads and services are watched closely by Surrey families who live, work and commute across the municipal line.

Readers should not confuse the Township with neighbouring Langley City, which has its own mayor and council. Langley City voters elected Mayor Delaney Mack on October 17, with a 28.5 per cent turnout, and that council held its own inaugural meeting on November 2. White Rock, the other South Fraser municipality still to swear in its council, has its inaugural council meeting scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2026, at the White Rock Community Centre.

The inaugural meeting was ceremonial. The new council’s first regular business meetings will set the pace for the term, including how the Township handles the growth pressures facing the whole South Fraser region, from housing supply to road connections into Surrey and Langley City.
