OTTAWA, Ont. - Canada is promoting trade and investment with Sweden and northern Europe this week as Industry Minister Mélanie Joly visits Sweden for a major business conference.

Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, is in Sweden to speak at the Network Conference 2026, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada said November 1. She will deliver remarks and take part in a fireside chat on joint actions and new collaborations in a new world order, and hold bilateral meetings with private-sector executives.

The visit aims to promote Canadian industry, strengthen the Canada-Sweden trade relationship, and promote Canada as a compelling destination for investment and a trusted global partner, the department said.

“Canada and Sweden share a strong commitment to innovation, investment and economic collaboration. This visit will showcase Canadian expertise, attract new investment and deepen our industrial ties, while building resilient partnerships that Canada needs to strengthen our economic security and competitiveness in a rapidly changing world,” Joly said in the statement.

The trade relationship already runs through the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, which Sweden ratified in May 2018. Sweden’s accession to NATO in 2024 has further deepened Canada-Sweden transatlantic ties, according to the statement’s background.

For Canadian businesses, including B.C. exporters looking beyond the United States, the visit is part of Ottawa’s wider push to diversify trade partners: new markets in northern Europe for Canadian goods, services and investment, and new investment into Canada.
