ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Two people were killed Friday in a head-on collision between a dump truck and an SUV on Marshall Road in Abbotsford, police say.
Abbotsford Police Patrol and Traffic officers were called to the 30000 block of Marshall Road at about 11:32 a.m. on Friday, October 23, for a serious head-on collision involving a dump truck and an SUV. Officers found both vehicles with significant damage, fully blocking the roadway.
The driver and the passenger of the SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene despite the lifesaving efforts of first responders, the Abbotsford Police Department said. The driver of the dump truck sustained only minor injuries, was treated at the scene, and is cooperating fully with investigators. Police have not released the identities of the two people who died.
Preliminary evidence indicates the dump truck was travelling eastbound on Marshall Road when the westbound SUV crossed into the eastbound lane, resulting in the collision, police said. The investigation remains in its early stages. It is being led by the AbbyPD Traffic Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
Marshall Road is closed in both directions between Ross Road and Mt. Lehman Road and is expected to remain closed for several hours while investigators work. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
“The Abbotsford Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” the department said.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash camera footage from the area at the time, to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, quoting file 2026-45364.
