DELTA, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is seeking witnesses to a collision involving a Delta Police officer in Ladner on October 6.
The incident happened shortly after 11 a.m., the IIO says. A DPD officer responding to a call was driving northbound on 46A Street approaching 45 Avenue when the police vehicle collided with another vehicle. An unoccupied parked car was also damaged.
The IIO is the independent civilian body that investigates incidents involving police in British Columbia where death or serious harm has occurred or may have occurred. It has jurisdiction over municipal police, RCMP and other designated officers across the province, and its investigations are separate from any internal police review.
The officer suffered minor injuries, according to the IIO. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital for assessment. The IIO has not released the driver’s identity or the extent of any injuries.
Witnesses with information, including anyone with dashcam or surveillance video, are asked to call the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477. The IIO says even brief observations can help investigators piece together what happened.
The IIO is investigating the circumstances of the collision. Apna News will update this article as the IIO releases findings.
Witnesses can reach the IIO directly at 1-855-446-8477.
