PITT MEADOWS, B.C. - A man faces weapons and assault charges after a theft at a Pitt Meadows retail store led to a multi-jurisdiction police operation across the Lower Mainland earlier this month.
On October 1, Pitt Meadows RCMP responded to a theft outside a store in the 19800-block of Lougheed Highway. A female suspect detained by loss prevention officers allegedly fled with a male associate in a vehicle, with reports the man had a weapon.
Police shared the vehicle details across the Lower Mainland. On October 2, BC Highway Patrol’s Prohibited Driver Enforcement Team spotted it in Maple Ridge and set up surveillance with help from Maple Ridge RCMP, Coquitlam RCMP’s Strike Force Team and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.
Officers arrested the occupants in Port Coquitlam after they parked the vehicle.
The BC Prosecution Service approved charges against Christian Darren Leggatt: possession of stolen property on October 3, followed by possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, intimidation by threats or violence, and assault with a weapon on October 7. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The female passenger was released on an undertaking with a future court date. No charges have been laid against her at this time.
“The coordinated efforts of the BC Highway Patrol, Maple Ridge RCMP, Coquitlam RCMP, LMD IPDS, and Pitt Meadows RCMP resulted in the safe arrest of these individuals while minimizing any risk to the public,” said Staff Sergeant Michelle Luca, Pitt Meadows Detachment Commander.
The charges have not been proven in court. This story is based on a Pitt Meadows RCMP news release dated October 14, 2026.
Correction (October 15, 2026): An earlier version of this headline described a ‘police chase.’ The RCMP release describes surveillance and an arrest after the vehicle was parked, not a chase. The headline has been corrected.
