SURREY, B.C. - Surrey Police Service is renewing its appeal for witnesses two years after an aggravated assault at a Newton park left a 22-year-old man with life-altering brain injuries.
On September 8, 2024, at about 12:38 a.m., police responded to a disturbance at a park near 120 Street and 70 Avenue. Officers found two men, aged 18 and 22, who had been assaulted. Both were taken to hospital.
The 18-year-old was treated for minor injuries and released. The 22-year-old was placed on life support with severe brain and head trauma, facing an uncertain medical outcome.
Surrey RCMP issued a public appeal at the time. While some information came in, SPS detectives say they need more to move the investigation forward and give answers to the victim and his family.
Police have now released images of a possible suspect vehicle, a Dodge Durango, seen leaving the area before officers arrived.
Anyone who was near 120 Street and 70 Avenue between midnight and 1 a.m. on September 8, 2024, and has not spoken to police is asked to call SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file 25-7368 (SP) or 2024-134124 (SU). Anonymous tips can go to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca.
