On November 5, 2026, at 3:38 a.m., Surrey Police Service officers responded to a call from a security guard at the Central City Fun Park, in the 11100 block of 124 Street, who reported that a man was screaming at them, police said in a release. When officers arrived, they found the security guard in the parking lot suffering from multiple stab wounds to his arm and legs, and immediately began providing life-saving medical aid.

A suspect was also located in the parking lot and was arrested without incident. The guard was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS, the provincial ambulance service) and remains in serious condition.

Ricco Norman Zanolli, a 37-year-old man, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of assault with a weapon, and two counts of breaching a release order. He remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on November 5 at 2 p.m. The charges have not been proven in court.

Central City Fun Park sits in Whalley, Surrey’s city centre neighbourhood, near the Central City shopping centre, Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus and the Surrey Central transit hub. Police have not released any further details, including what led to the confrontation or the guard’s age.
