BURNABY, B.C. - A second riding has changed hands in B.C.’s final count, with Conservative candidate David Xie now leading NDP candidate Paul Choi by 77 votes in Burnaby South-Metrotown, according to Elections BC’s results feed.

As of 8:07 p.m. on November 6, Xie held 6,560 votes to Choi’s 6,483 in the riding. At the initial count on election night, Choi led Xie by 66 votes, 5,811 to 5,745. The final count, which runs from November 6 to 10, adds mail-in ballots, absentee ballots and other ballots that could not be counted on election night.

Burnaby South-Metrotown is the second lead to flip since election night. In Ladysmith-Oceanside, NDP candidate Stephanie Higginson now leads Conservative Kris McNichol by 29 votes, 14,012 to 13,983. McNichol led by 89 votes at the initial count.

Both ridings now sit inside the recount zone. Ridings where the margin is 100 votes or fewer go to a full recount as part of the final count, so neither result is settled until that process finishes.

The closest Surrey race also moved, but did not flip. In Surrey City Centre, Conservative Zeeshan Wahla now leads NDP incumbent Amna Shah by 380 votes, 6,381 to 6,001, narrowing from a 395-vote margin at the initial count, when the totals were 5,713 to 5,318. In Kelowna Centre, the Conservative lead stands at 44 votes, 11,687 to 11,643.

Across the province, the Conservatives lead in 64 of 93 ridings, the BC NDP in 27 and the BC Green Party in 2. The Conservatives have 909,153 votes, or 47.97 per cent of the vote counted so far, ahead of the NDP at 707,938 votes, or 37.35 per cent, and the Greens at 210,778 votes, or 11.12 per cent.

Counting continues through Tuesday, November 10. Once counting finishes in every riding, Elections BC publishes the final results and the winners are declared on Return Day, November 18, 2026. Until then, every lead in the final count remains unofficial and subject to change.
