While investigating that incident, police were called to a second vehicle ablaze in the 140 block of Berar Road. When officers arrived, they found a Toyota Tacoma also burned. The two vehicles were located approximately 2.5 kilometres apart.

Due to the proximity and the timing of the fires, police say both incidents are considered suspicious and are under investigation. The RCMP file number is 2026-1893.

What police are asking for

Anyone with information, including video surveillance from the Johnson Place and Berar Road areas in the early hours of October 31, is asked to contact the Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668.

Lake Cowichan is a small community at the eastern end of Cowichan Lake on Vancouver Island, where overnight street and doorbell camera footage from even a handful of homes can cover much of a neighbourhood. Two vehicles burning within about 2.5 kilometres of each other on the same night is exactly the pattern investigators look at when deciding whether fires were set deliberately and whether they are connected. Police have not announced any suspects or arrests, and have not said whether anyone was injured. Apna News will update this story as the RCMP releases more information.
