Thanksgiving weekend in Surrey is packed, from tree planting and a multicultural dance showcase to a Punjabi folk dance festival, a Thanksgiving 5K, and Halloween fun for the kids. Here are seven things to do across the city from Saturday, October 10 to Monday, October 12.
1. Community Tree Planting (Fall Releaf Program)
Help plant native trees and shrubs and grow Surrey’s urban forest. All ages are welcome, according to the City of Surrey, and planting sites will be marked with signs near the park entrance.

2. Shred-A-Thon by Rotary Club of Surrey
A drive-through secure shredding event for confidential documents, hosted by the Rotary Club of Surrey. Proceeds support Rotary community projects including the Starfish Pack Program, which provides food packs for vulnerable students and families.

3. Global Dance Festival 2026: Fusion of Diversity
A family-friendly multicultural dance showcase presented by Spandan Arts Dance Academy, featuring Indigenous, Hawaiian, Afro-Hiphop, Salsa, Chinese, Venezuelan, Bollywood, Bharatanatyam and K-pop performances, plus a vendor marketplace and food trucks, according to the City of Surrey.

4. World Folk Festival 2026
Presented by the International Punjabi Folk Arts Society, this two-day showcase brings live Punjabi folk dance competitions with performers from around the globe, including Bhangra, Jhoomer, Luddi and Gidha. Two separate shows with different start times.

5. Surrey Runners Thanksgiving 5K and Kids 400m Dash
A Thanksgiving-weekend 5K run and walk plus a 400m kids dash at Bear Creek Park, with chip-timed bibs, finisher medals and post-race refreshments. Organizers encourage participants to wear orange for Thanksgiving.

6. Count Quackula Scavenger Hunt
Find eight costumed rubber ducks hidden around the farmhouse and grounds of Historic Stewart Farm, and receive a spooky rubber ducky at the welcome centre while supplies last. Spooky but not scary, according to the City of Surrey, and costumes are welcome.

7. Bear Creek Park Pumpkin Train (daytime)
A family-friendly mini train ride through a decorated forest at Bear Creek Park. Admission includes a treat, a pumpkin to take home and crafts. The ride runs on a first-come, first-served basis with no online tickets for the daytime train. Note: the separate nighttime Scream Train (October 16 to November 1, $18, recommended for ages 12 and up) is a different, scarier attraction.
