VANCOUVER, B.C. - Costumed revellers should expect to see more police in uniform across Vancouver this Halloween weekend, as the Vancouver Police Department deploys approximately 80 additional officers to support public safety during the celebrations.
The extra officers will be assigned to foot patrols, traffic enforcement, youth engagement and proactive policing throughout the weekend, as thousands of people prepare to celebrate in the Granville Entertainment District, Gastown and neighbourhoods across the city. They will work alongside community partners and emergency services to help ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween for everyone.
“We’re happy to see people get out and enjoy Halloween festivities, and we want everyone to have a good time,” said Constable Megan Lui. “We’re asking people to celebrate responsibly, look out for one another, and call 9-1-1 immediately if they witness a crime in progress, suspicious activity, or any situation that puts someone’s safety at risk.”
Police are also reminding the public that imitation firearms and replica weapons can create fear, prompt emergency calls, and lead to a significant police response. People are encouraged to avoid carrying imitation weapons as part of their Halloween costumes, and to consider alternative costume accessories that do not resemble real weapons.
