LANGFORD, B.C. - West Shore RCMP say the search is continuing for 71-year-old Meike Mantai, who was reported missing on October 28, 2026, after search and rescue teams were stood down following the discovery of her vehicle near Sandcut Beach.

In an update issued November 3, the detachment said Mantai’s 2018 RAV4 was located on the morning of October 30, 2026 near Sandcut Beach in Jordan River Regional Park in Shirley, B.C. Sooke RCMP and Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue conducted extensive ground and water searches in the area until October 31, when the search was called off. Mantai has not been found.

Search and rescue teams have now been demobilized, and police say the investigation is transitioning into a follow-up phase focused on analyzing leads and pursuing new information. Police say they continue to be concerned for Mantai’s wellbeing and safety.

Description of Meike Mantai

Mantai is described as a Caucasian female, 71 years old, standing 5 ft 4 in (163 cm), with a medium build, grey medium-length hair and hazel eyes.

What Happens in the Follow-Up Phase

When an active ground and water search is called off, a missing-person file does not close. Investigators shift to the information side of the case: re-examining tips, checking records and reviewing any footage or sightings reported from the area. For a case centred on Jordan River Regional Park, that makes visitors, campers and drivers who were near Sandcut Beach around October 30 especially important witnesses, because a small detail from that morning could direct the next search.

The West Shore RCMP detachment, based in Langford, polices the western communities of Greater Victoria, while Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue is a volunteer team that covers the rugged coastline and backcountry west of Sooke, including the Shirley and Jordan River area where Mantai’s vehicle was found.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Meike Mantai is urged to contact their local police or the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264, quoting file 2026-21346.
