OTTAWA - Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will welcome Youssef Raggi, Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, to Canada on November 6, 2026, Global Affairs Canada announced November 4, 2026.
The visits will provide an opportunity to advance bilateral cooperation and further strengthen Canada’s long-standing ties with Lebanon and Austria, rooted in shared interests, strong people-to-people ties and a commitment to international peace and security.
Minister Anand and Minister Raggi will discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation, including through Canada’s continued support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and other state institutions. They will discuss efforts to support Lebanon’s long-term stability and sovereignty, alongside broader regional developments and initiatives aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts.
Minister Anand and Minister Meinl-Reisinger will exchange views on deepening Canada-Austria cooperation on European and transatlantic security, including continued support for Ukraine and efforts to uphold a rules-based international order. They will also discuss close cooperation during Austria’s upcoming United Nations Security Council term, advance Canada-EU cooperation, and strengthen economic resilience, as well as bilateral trade, investment and innovation ties.
For Surrey’s Lebanese-Canadian community, the Raggi visit is the most direct point of interest. Canada’s support for Lebanon’s state institutions, including its armed forces, and the discussion of Lebanon’s long-term stability come in a week when Lebanese Heritage Month is being marked across the country, and many Surrey families follow developments in Lebanon closely through relatives and community ties.
