TSAWWASSEN, B.C. - High winds and heavy waves in the Strait of Georgia are disrupting BC Ferries service on multiple routes today, Friday, November 6, 2026, and travellers should check sailing status before heading to the terminal.
BC Ferries posted the travel advisory on Thursday, November 5, and updated it on Friday, November 6. “Due to high winds and wave weight in the Strait of Georgia, service on multiple routes in this region have been affected today, Friday, November 6,” the advisory states.
Service notices have been posted for several routes. The advisory tells travellers to check Current Conditions on bcferries.com, follow @BCFerries on X, or call 1-888-223-3779 for the most up-to-date sailing and departure information.
“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us, and we will continue to monitor this weather system and share information as it becomes available,” BC Ferries said. Weather warnings in place for the region are issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The disruption affects the Tsawwassen-Nanaimo corridor and other Strait of Georgia routes used by Lower Mainland travellers heading to Vancouver Island. Anyone with a reservation on a cancelled sailing will be contacted about the status of their booking.
