The two 2025 shootings

On October 12, 2025, police responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 13000-block of 103A Avenue in Surrey. A female victim sustained injuries in the incident. Four days later, on October 16, 2025, police responded to shots fired at a café in the 8400-block of 120 Street. The business was closed at the time, but two employees were inside; neither was injured.

The BC Extortion Task Force assumed conduct of both investigations after potential linkages between the incidents were identified, and investigators have worked with policing partners since then to advance the files.

Arrests in Surrey on November 1

On November 1, 2026, the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force, in coordination with CFSEU-BC and the Surrey Police Service, arrested the two men in Surrey. The BC Prosecution Service has approved one count of reckless discharge of a firearm against each man in relation to the October 12, 2025 incident, and one count against each man in relation to the October 16, 2025 incident. The charges have not been proven in court.

“These charges should serve as another clear message to those involved in extortion related violence that law enforcement is working collaboratively to ensure public safety,” said Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound, the Lower Mainland District Operations Officer and Assistant District Commander, adding that the charges follow a year of investigative work, including multiple judicial authorizations, search warrants and detailed analysis of evidence.

The task force, one year in

The BC Provincial Extortion Task Force was established in September 2025 to coordinate and enhance investigations into extortion-related offences affecting communities across the province. It is made up of members from the Abbotsford Police Department, CFSEU-BC, the Delta Police Department, Metro Vancouver Transit Police, the Surrey Police Service and the Canada Border Services Agency. Through its investigative efforts, the task force has now secured 28 charges against 14 individuals, and it has provided assistance to policing and law enforcement partners throughout Canada.

For Surrey, the announcement brings charges in two of the shootings that shook Newton residents and businesses in the fall of 2025, more than a year after the shots were fired.
